agreeing to these terms
These terms form an agreement between you and legal entity name ("yap", "we", "us"), covering the yap app, the yap keyboard extension, and this website. By creating an account or using yap, you agree to them. If you don't, don't use yap.
Our privacy policy explains what we do with your data and forms part of this agreement.
yap is distributed through the Apple App Store, so Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app. Where it and these terms conflict, these terms govern our relationship with you, and Apple's terms govern your relationship with Apple. Apple is not a party to this agreement, has no obligation to support yap, and is a third-party beneficiary entitled to enforce it.
who can use yap
You must be at least age — must match the age gate in the app, the App Store age rating, and section 11 of the privacy policy to create an account. If you're using yap on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it.
yap is available in territories. You may not use it where doing so would break the law that applies to you.
your account
You sign in with Apple or Google. Keep that sign-in secure — anything done through your account is treated as done by you. Tell us at support@yap.app if you think someone else has access.
One account per person. Don't share it, sell it, or create accounts to get around a limit or a ban.
your licence to use yap
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use yap on Apple devices you own or control, for your own purposes, in line with these terms and Apple's App Store rules.
You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source code of yap; rent, sell or sublicense it; remove any notices; or use it to build a competing product. You may not access our API other than through the app.
your content
You own your content — your recordings, transcripts, rewrites and custom modes. We claim no ownership of any of it.
To run the service, you give us a limited licence to host, store, transmit, process and display your content, and to send it to the processors named in the privacy policy, solely to deliver yap to you. This licence exists only so the app can work; it ends when you delete the content or your account. It does not let us publish your content, use it in marketing, or train models on it.
You're responsible for having the right to record and process whatever you record. If you're recording a conversation rather than yourself, the law in some places requires everyone's consent — that's your call to make, not ours.
rewrites are generated, not guaranteed
This is the most important section in this document. yap uses automated speech recognition and AI language models. They make mistakes. A rewrite can mishear a word, change a number, drop a negation, invent a detail, or land on a tone you didn't intend — and a fluent, confident-looking sentence is exactly what a wrong rewrite looks like.
Check every rewrite before you send it. Once you paste and send, the message is yours, not ours. We are not responsible for the consequences of anything you send — including messages that were mistranscribed, misdirected, or rewritten into a register you didn't want.
Don't rely on yap for anything where an error carries real cost: medical, legal, financial or safety-critical communication, contractual commitments, or emergencies. yap doesn't contact emergency services and isn't a substitute for anything that does.
yap's accuracy varies with your accent, the background noise, the language you're speaking, and how much code-switching you do. We work hard on Hinglish and Indian-accented English specifically, and we still won't promise a particular level of accuracy.
acceptable use
Don't use yap to produce, send or store anything that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens, defames, or incites violence or hatred against anyone;
- impersonates a real person or organisation, or is designed to deceive someone about who wrote it;
- sexualises children in any way;
- is unlawful where you or the recipient are, or that infringes someone else's rights;
- is spam, bulk unsolicited messaging, or part of a scam or phishing attempt.
On roast mode. It exists to be funny with people who know you. Pointing it at a stranger, a colleague who hasn't consented to it, or anyone in a position where they can't push back is a breach of these terms, and we'll act on reports.
Also don't: probe or overload our systems, circumvent usage limits, scrape the service, use automated tools against it, or misuse the keyboard extension.

paid plans
yap is currently free while in beta. There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions today.
Before any paid plan ships, this section has to be rewritten and this page re-linked in App Store Connect. Apple's Guideline 3.1.2(c) requires the length of the renewal term, what's included, the actual price charged, and how to cancel to be stated clearly before a customer subscribes — in the app, in the App Store metadata, and in a functional Terms of Use link. Subscriptions also have to be sold through in-app purchase (3.1.1) and must work across all the user's devices.
When paid plans exist, they will be sold through Apple in-app purchase. Payment, renewal, refunds and cancellation are handled by Apple under your App Store account settings, not by us — we can't issue App Store refunds, though we'll help you find the right place to ask.
beta, availability, changes
yap is beta software. Expect bugs, downtime, features that appear and disappear, and occasional loss of data despite our best efforts. Keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.
We may add, change, suspend or remove features, and may set or adjust usage limits. If we make a change that materially reduces what yap does for you, we'll give you reasonable notice where we can. We may also update these terms — material changes get notice in the app or by email before they take effect, and continuing to use yap afterwards means you accept them.
ending things
You can stop whenever you like: delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account, or just delete the app. Deleting the app alone doesn't delete your account — see the data and deletion page.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these terms, if we're required to by law, or if we discontinue yap. Where the situation allows it, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to export your data. Sections on content ownership, disclaimers, liability and governing law survive termination.
our intellectual property
yap, the yap wordmark, the app's design, and its software are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property law. These terms don't transfer any of that to you. Add trademark status once filed — e.g. "yap® is a registered trademark of …" or drop the claim until registration.
Apple, App Store, iOS and Sign in with Apple are trademarks of Apple Inc. Google and Google Sign-In are trademarks of Google LLC. We're not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by either.
disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, yap is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind — express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability.
Nothing here excludes rights you have that can't legally be excluded. Consumers in India, the UK, the EU and elsewhere keep their statutory rights regardless of what this section says.
liability
To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, goodwill or data — including anything arising from a rewrite that was wrong or a message you sent.
Our total liability to you for any claim is capped at the greater of the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months, or ₹N — confirm with counsel; a cap of "zero" is unenforceable in several jurisdictions and looks bad in review.
We don't exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't lawfully be excluded.
law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in city, India have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers may bring proceedings in their place of residence where local law gives them that right.
Before filing anything, please write to legal@yap.app — most things are faster to fix than to litigate.
the rest
These terms plus the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest still stands. Not enforcing something immediately doesn't waive it. You may not assign this agreement; we may assign it as part of a merger or acquisition. Nothing here creates a partnership, employment or agency relationship.
Questions: legal@yap.app.
Not legal advice, and not ready to publish. This is a structured draft, not a reviewed contract. Every highlighted item needs a real value, and the liability, jurisdiction and consumer-rights sections in particular need an Indian lawyer's eyes before this goes live. Guideline 2.1(a) means App Review rejects submissions whose linked pages still show placeholder text.
